What Is Acerola Day?

Every year on May 12, Japan celebrates "Acerola Day," established in 1999 by the "Acerola Day" committee, formed by the town office, chamber of commerce, tourism association, and tropical fruit research group of Motobu, Okinawa Prefecture. It is registered with the Japan Anniversary Association under the name "Aserōra no Hi." The date marks the time of year when Motobu harvests its first acerola. The aim is to raise awareness of acerola and revitalize the town.

Acerola is a fruit grown mainly in tropical and subtropical regions.
