What Is KUKKIA Day?

September 5th is "KUKKIA Day." It was established by Akai Boushi Co., Ltd., a Tokyo-based maker of cookies, rusks, and other sweets, to raise awareness of its signature product line, KUKKIA. The date comes from a pun: 9 ("ku") for "cookie" and 5 ("go") for "gaufrette." The anniversary was certified and registered by the Japan Anniversary Association in 2021.

What Exactly Is "KUKKIA"?

KUKKIA is a baked confection that sandwiches smooth, melting chocolate between a light, thin cookie and a crisp, fragrant gaufrette wafer. It was launched as a new product on September 6, 2016, and has also received a Monde Selection Gold Award.
