September 6th is "Kyoro-chan Day," better known as "Morinaga Chocolate Ball Day." Confectionery maker Morinaga & Co. established the anniversary in honor of Kyoro-chan, the beloved mascot character of its signature snack, Chocoball — the date comes from a pun on "Kyo(9)ro(6)-chan," and also reflects that the predecessor product, "Chocolate Ball," went on sale in September 1965. The day is certified and registered by the Japan Anniversary Association.

The History of Chocoball and Kyoro-chan

Chocoball traces its roots to an earlier product called "Chocolate Ball" launched in 1965. The character Kyoro-chan first appeared on the packaging in 1967, and the product was renamed to its current form, "Chocoball," in 1969.
