JUJU Day

What Is JUJU Day?

October 10th is "JUJU Day" in Japan, named for the singer JUJU, whose name can be read as "10 (ju)-month 10 (ju)-day." It was officially recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association on October 10, 2008.

A Holiday Where a Name and a Date Seem to Align by Fate

JUJU is one of Japan's leading female singers, known for her clear, translucent voice and a wide musical range spanning jazz, R&B and soul.

• Origin: comes from the way the name "JUJU" echoes the doubled sound of "10 (ju)"
• Background: JUJU marked milestones on this date, releasing the album "Wonderful Life" on October 10, 2007, and performing live in New York on October 10, 2008
• Later milestones: on October 10, 2012, she held a concert at the Nippon Budokan and received the Japan Anniversary Association's first "Anniversary Culture Merit Award"
• What the recognition means: a special holiday for fans, linking an artist's name to a date through wordplay

An Artist Also Praised for Her Cover Albums

Beyond her original songs, JUJU is also known for covering a wide range of Western and Japanese music, earning acclaim for the distinctive interpretation she brings to every song.

Tips for Marking This Day

• Listen to one of JUJU's signature songs or a personal favorite
• Check out JUJU's live performances or interviews
• Look for wordplay hidden in the names of your own favorite artists
• Spend some relaxed time listening to music you love

A Doubled Sound That Keeps Resonating in the Heart

Born from the coincidental overlap of a name and a date, this holiday symbolizes the special bond between an artist and their fans. October 10th is a day to listen closely to JUJU's voice.
