What Is MBS Radio Day?

September 6th is "MBS Radio Day" in Japan. The date comes from the station's Wide FM (FM supplementary broadcast) frequency, "90.6MHz," and it was established in 2016 by Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) to promote the appeal of clear, easy-to-listen-to FM radio. On September 6 of that year, the Japan Anniversary Association presented the registration certificate live during the program Arigatō Hamamura Jun desu.

A Unique Case: A Frequency Becomes a Holiday

MBS Radio is a broadcaster beloved mainly in the Kansai region, delivering programming on AM (1179kHz) and, since 2016, also on Wide FM (90.6MHz). Since April 2021, broadcasting has been handled by MBS Radio Co., Ltd., which took over Mainichi Broadcasting System's radio division.
