September 23 is Nagano Grape Day, established by JA Zen-Noh Nagano and officially certified by the Japan Anniversary Association in 2019. The day was created to spread awareness of the appeal of grapes grown in Nagano Prefecture.

Nagano Prefecture is one of Japan's leading grape-growing regions, producing varieties such as Kyoho, Nagano Purple, and Shine Muscat. The date September 23 was chosen for two reasons.
- Origin: Established by JA Zen-Noh Nagano and certified by the Japan Anniversary Association in 2019
- Timing: It falls during the peak shipping season for Nagano-grown grapes
- Wordplay: The Japanese word for a bunch of grapes, fusa, is read the same as the numbers 2 (fu) and 3 (sa)
