Maruchan Seimen Day

What Is Maruchan Seimen Day?

November 7th is "Maruchan Seimen Day" in Japan. It was established by Toyo Suisan Kaisha, known for its "Maruchan" brand, and was recognized and registered by the Japan Anniversary Association in 2017. The date commemorates November 7, 2011, when the packaged instant noodle "Maruchan Seimen" went on sale.

A Product That Changed How People Saw Packaged Noodles

Maruchan Seimen is said to have prompted a fresh appreciation of packaged instant noodles. The day expresses the company's wish that even more people enjoy its taste.

• Established by: Toyo Suisan Kaisha (Minato, Tokyo)
• Registered: 2017, with the Japan Anniversary Association
• Why this date: the product's launch date, November 7, 2011
• Method: a patented process that dries freshly cut raw noodles as they are

Founded at Tsukiji Market

Toyo Suisan was founded in March 1953 at Tsukiji Market as Yokosuka Suisan, and took its current name in July 1956 -- which is why "suisan" (fisheries) is still in its name. Maruchan Seimen was reported to have passed 300 million servings in less than a year and a half after its launch, by March 2013. Its smooth, chewy noodles are one reason for its long popularity.
