What Is Boy Scouts Founding Anniversary?

January 24th marks the "Boy Scouts Founding Anniversary." On this date in 1908, Sir Robert Baden-Powell published "Scouting for Boys" in England. The book had an enormous impact on youth education and led to the formal launch of the worldwide Scouting movement.

How Scouting Began

Baden-Powell, a military officer, drew on his experiences in South Africa and came to believe in the importance of teaching boys independence, observation skills, and outdoor knowledge.
