Every May 25th is also "Pudding Day" (プリンプリンの日, Purin Purin no Hi) in Japan. The day was established by Ohayu Dairy (オハヨー乳業株式会社), a dairy product manufacturer based in Okayama Prefecture, to promote its pudding products and celebrate the joy of pudding. In Japan, "purin" (プリン, from the French "pudding" via English) refers specifically to the smooth, custard-style pudding with caramel sauce — a dessert that has been enthusiastically adopted and refined by Japanese confectionery culture since its introduction from Western cuisine.
