What Is Noodle Day?

November 11th is "Noodle Day" in Japan. To keep people interested in noodles all year round, the National Federation of Noodle Manufacturing Cooperatives made the 11th of every month "Men no Hi" (Noodle Day), inspired by the image of long, thin noodles and a pun reading "11" as "ii" (good). November 11th, with four "1"s in a row, is the symbolic highlight. It was established in 1999 and is registered with the Japan Anniversary Association as "Men no Hi" (めんの日).

A Food Culture That Stretches On, Thin and Long

From udon and soba to ramen and pasta, noodles have taken root in food cultures around the world in countless forms.
