What Is Safe and Secure Community Day?

October 11 is "Safe and Secure Community Day" in Japan. It was set by the government's Ministerial Meeting on Anti-Crime Measures in 2005 and has been observed since 2006. From this day through October 20, the "National Community Safety Campaign" runs for ten days, with police, local governments, and crime-prevention volunteers holding awareness activities nationwide.
