Every November 2nd is "Hanshin Tigers Day" (阪神タイガース記念日, Hanshin Taigāsu Kinenbi) in Japan. On November 2, 1935, the "Osaka Tigers" (大阪タイガース, Ōsaka Taigāsu) — the predecessor of today's Hanshin Tigers (阪神タイガース) — were founded in Osaka, becoming one of Japan's oldest professional baseball clubs and the team that would go on to embody the passionate, occasionally tragic, deeply loyal baseball culture of Osaka and the Kansai region.
