Every November 27th is "Rehabilitation Day" (更生保護記念日, Kōsei Hogo Kinenbi) in Japan. On November 27, 1952, Japan's "Day for Rehabilitation Law" (更生保護法の日) was established — commemorating the institutional framework for Japan's rehabilitation (更生保護, kōsei hogo) system: the network of services and community-based supervision that supports the social reintegration of persons released from prison, juvenile training schools, and other correctional facilities. The system aims to prevent re-offending and to support the successful return of former offenders to productive community life.
